Taking out the trash

Several years too late, someone is finally taking on the extremely tired meme about how post-9/11 Republicans morphed into jack-booted thugs wielding power to tamp down on dissent.

Said it before and I'll say it again: the only censorship in that era was self-censorship. Now why dissenters and left-leaning media types felt the need to self-censor in the wake of 9/11 probably says a lot more about them than it says about asserted threats to dialogue.
