My Dogs are Smarter (Or, Assault with a Dead Weapon)
If you're at all familiar with this blog, you know what's coming in a post so-named. Well, this is a dog story but not about either of my canine geniuses. No, it's a different kind of dog story; one that left me unsure whether I should laugh or cry at the strangeness of it.
What is the appropriate response to the death of man's best friend (or in this case, woman's)? I would say heart-wrenching honesty mixed with fun and humor like this would qualify. But what of this:
A woman angry that her new puppy had died pushed her way into a dog breeder's home and repeatedly hit her on the head with the dead Chihuahua, authorities said.
The 33-year-old woman told police she had taken the puppy to a veterinarian, who said it was only 4 weeks old and needed to be returned to its mother. But before she could return the puppy, it died.
Early Wednesday, the woman went to the breeder's home, pushed her way inside and began fighting with the breeder as she tried to make her way to the basement to get another puppy, police said.
The breeder wrestled the woman out of her house to the front porch, where the woman then hit the breeder over the head numerous times with the dead puppy, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported, citing police.
First off, what the hell is a breeder doing selling a 4-wk old puppy to a new owner? Anybody who knows anything about dogs knows that you don't separate a puppy from it's mother until at least 6-weeks and preferably not until the pup hits 8-weeks. Problem #1.
Problem #2? This woman is out of her head. I don't care if your puppy is dead or not, you don't threaten people regardless of whether your anger is righteous or not; you most certainly don'assaultlt them with a dead animal!
Had Lacy died the week we brought her home, I would not have run to the car, driven up to Prescott and demanded answers of the breeder who sold her to us. Likewise, I wouldn't have hauled Cassie's carcass back to Noah's Ark had she inexplicably died after taking her into our home.
There's some things you just don't do...beating a helpless woman with a dead Chihuahua is one of them!
