Sunshine and Roses
Has it really only been two days since the Democrats won back the House? Was it really just today that they learned they'll run the Senate also?
Wow, but they work fast. Everythings coming up Roses:
--All's right with the world in Afghanistan:
Despite a raging pro-Taliban insurgency, the people of Afghanistan say they are optimistic about the future, satisfied with their young democracy and rank security low on their list of everyday concerns, according to a survey out today.
--The US Trade Deficit is down:
The overall deficit declined 6.8 percent to $64.3 billion in September from a record $69 billion in August, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.
The drop of $4.7 billion was better than expected and represented the biggest one-month decrease in more than five years.
Their even pro Big-corporations now:
--Disney profit doubles on networks, studios, parks
--Moderate-price department store powerhouses J.C. Penney Co. and Kohl's Corp. reported on Thursday double-digit gains in third-quarter profit that beat analysts' expectations. They also both upgraded their outlook for the year, boosted by upbeat holiday forecasts.
--Delta Air Lines Inc., the nation's third-largest carrier, said Thursday it swung to a $52 million profit in the third quarter thanks in part to a one-time gain due to a decrease in previously estimated pre-bankruptcy claims for restructuring of aircraft financing deals.
And best of all, we're going to get a full season's worth of Aaron Sorkin auto-biography:
--After days of speculation, NBC has ordered a full season's worth of episodes for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," the critically praised drama whose poor ratings placed it on the brink of cancellation.
It's all good. Nothin' but sunshine and roses baby!
