More Ivory Towers

Mediaskeptic at Taking Notes posted about stupidity among the press ranks Tuesday:If you wonder why journalists are dumb as cow chips, check out this quote.

I'm afraid what this says is that the future of newspapers depends more on people who care about profit than (journalism's) community responsibility,' said Naughton, who retired in 2003 as president of the Poynter Institute, the school for journalists that owns the St. Petersburg Times.

That's Jim Naughton, executive editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer. His statement makes me wonder about his relationship with his publisher. Is the Inquirer's publisher not responsible for the paper's fiscal management? Does Naughton not understand this?

If he's got any questions, I could give him our publisher's number...
