A Funny thing happened on the way to My Career

This piece in yesterday's NY Times caused a bit of a stir over at the Corner and received some notice in other places as well. It focuses on a phenomenon that media has discussed for years now, of how people otherwise able to work choose to drop out of the employment pool.

While this installment focuses specifically on men who've chosen this route late in their careers, the phenomenon is not exclusive to this group only. I know because it happened to me in my twenties. I'll have more to say about that in another post but for now, read the story and get your heads around the phenomenon it describes.
