Screed blog
No, not the masterful Lileks creation. No, it's just the latest rendition of Andrew Sullivan's ever-offended sensibilities as Dean Barnett points out.
I must admit, Andrew has never been high on my list of must-reads. Sim sees it differently and is an avid reader; call it a difference in taste.
My only interaction with the man came about two years ago in a trade of emails about a column he'd written. Though I disagreed with his conclusions he was gracious about my comments and I felt like--while he didn't agree with me--he gave my argument a fair hearing and I couldn't ask for anything more.
Then the President began his 'War on Gays' and Andrew slipped further and further over the edge. By the 2004 election he was virtually unreadable to many by virtue of his jihad on the Bush Administration's positions on gay marriage and domestic partnerships.
Barnett is right in that Andrew has become almost a caricature of his old self. Calling Hugh a partisan is not really an insult, for he would be the first to acknowledge it.
Andrew's haranguing of Christianity and it's outspoken supporters is a kind of partisanship that he is blind to. Sadly, it's rendered him nigh-on unreadable to many who would otherwise enjoy his insights.
