Something I didn't miss
Seems that some things haven't changed in the nearly 4 years since last I called California home:
Authorities declared a Stage 1 power emergency for Southern California on Friday because of a potential shortfall in electrical supplies as temperatures rose into the 90s.
The California Independent System Operator, which operates the state's electrical grid said, the alert was issued because of the number of generators that were off-line for maintenance as a fall heat wave baked the region.
The alert was issued around 1:40 p.m. and was to remain in effect until 9 p.m., the CAISO said.
Customers had already been asked earlier in the day to begin conserving energy because more than 8,500 megawatts of power was unavailable due to planned and unplanned equipment outages.
"This seasonal maintenance comes on a day that Southern California is experiencing unseasonably hot weather," the CAISO said in a statement.
Still doing a bang-up job of managing it's power supplies I see. Wouldn't want to do anything about increasing the availability of supply in the state though. That, after all, would make sense!
