Deep Throat: Local edition

Retired RNC attorney Robert Mardian has a few things to say about the unmasking of Deep Throat. Mardian, who now lives in the Valley, expressed shock over the revelation:

Mardian said he never would have guessed Felt was Deep Throat, the storied confidential source who provided information to Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. The Washington Post confirmed Felt was their source on Tuesday.

He cuts to the chase with his next comment: "He was in a position of authority at the FBI, investigating a matter, and the last thing in the world he should be doing is giving information to a newspaper," Mardian said.

Therein lies the problem, and serves as the root of any and all skepticism about him and his motives.
