Myopic Dodger Fans 3, Haters 0

The Dodgers have won three straight since Simian launched his unwarranted and wholly biased attack on the organization. At the same time, those vaunted Fryers find themselves in 3rd place in the NL West.

In the first week at least, Sim's derision of the teams defense hasn't held up. If there is a problem, it's the bullpen. I know, because I suffered through last-nights Dodger-Diamondback affair. Neither team can pitch at this point. Though I must say, I was not much of an Elmer Dessens fan while he was here in AZ and not best-pleased to see him in the Blue but he pitched a solid game last night and had the bullpen held up their end of the deal, he'd have had a win.

Call it myopic if you must, but be sure to check the scoreboard!

Disclaimer: It's the first week of the season, who the heck knows how this is gonna go, so all predictions, arguments and lame attempts at smack are to be taken with a huge grain of salt!

In typical Myopic Dog fashion, it's all about shooting the messenger. Our dear host forgets that it was ESPN's Buster Olney who did the heavy damage.

Since it IS early, it's important to note that the Dogs haven't played their literal Daddys (spanish translation: Padres), yet.

Meanwhile, if the Pads don't finally learn how to hit in Petco I'll be eating crow by June. Ridiculous.

No, its about defending the honor of an organization against being slighted unfairly.

The proof is always in the pudding, and to this point (who is to say it'll continue at all or for how long), the Myopic Dogs are winning more games to the tune of 1st place in the division. And in honor of the Jim-Rome-smack-is-king era we live in, such is to be celebrated!

As for the Friers,--not that I bothered to pay attention to the off-season moves--the question for me is did they re-tool the club to better fit the stadium? Yes, last year they spent too much time and energy complaining about the huge HR-unfriendly dimensions but did they fix it? Did they add a gap hitter or two who can take advantage of all that room? Or are they still a bunch of clubbers looking for the bomb every time up?

A follow up...

As to the alleged fatherhood of the Dodgers by the Pads, I say lets compare records.

Specifically, how many WS appearances/wins have the Padres had in the last 35 years?

You can win the match-up at a .750 clip for all I care, it's the post-season that matters and there's no comparison b/t these two franchises, historically speaking.

At the same time, I acknowledge that over the last 10 years the Pads have performed better in this regard.

And yes, the end-of-season choke in '96 still sticks in the craw.

In a quick back-of-the-napkin calculation I come up with the following: the Dogs have 5 WS appearances since 1970, the Friers 2. The Dogs, as you so derisively refer to them are 13-15 in those 5 series for a WP of .464. Not something to write home about unless you're comparing it to the Friers record of 1-8 and corresponding WP of .111....
