Looking before you leap
Joe Johnson's fantasy-deal looks to be in trouble. One local sports-know-it-all chimes in:
And Joe Johnson thought he was mistreated here? One of the owners in Atlanta is unwilling to give up a marginal-at-best player and a couple of draft picks in order to land the unrestricted free-agent guard. Feel wanted now, Joe?
In fact, Steve Belkin is taking his partners to court so he can block this proposed trade between Phoenix and Atlanta. Looks like Joe picked a real winner in the Hawks. Maybe his agent should have checked out the ownership situation and realized how unstable it was before even considering Atlanta. What's Johnson to do should this deal fall apart?
Can he swallow his pride and go back to the Suns with his tail between his legs in hopes of getting $60 or $70 million. And how dumb are the Hawks? If they won't trade for Johnson and decide to offer him a contract at five years and $70 million the Suns will take about two seconds to match the offer. Ugly situation. But that's what you get for dealing with a team better suited for the NBDL than the NBA...
