Spicoli Gittin' 'er Done

While there's not much that is funny about the aftermath of Katrina, I admit I had to chuckle when I came across this nugget about Sean Penn's efforts in New Orleans:

EFFORTS by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly overnight, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak...With the boat loaded with members of Penn's entourage, including a personal photographer, one bystander taunted the actor: "How are you going to get any people in that thing?"

I suppose anyone willing and able to lend a hand should be saluted, but Penn's history of transparent, limelight-seeking activism has reached a new low. If he'd just stick to acting we'd get along swimmingly.
