Africa, cont.
Prior to my trip to Africa last year, the crisis in Zimbabwe was something I was only tangentially connected to. But during my trip, I met several people from Zimbabwe who had been the victims of Magbe's reign of terror and came to realize how little of the story seeps to the surface in the U.S. media.
But to extend on yesterday's Live 8 post, consider for a moment the situation in Zimbabwe:
The government's blitz campaign to evict people from their homes or markets -- called Operation Murambatsvina, or "Drive Out Rubbish" -- has left over 300,000 persons homeless and has exacerbated an already dire humanitarian situation.
Of course part of the problem in Africa is woeful and corrupt governments. Which actually speaks to the genius of Bush's Millenium Challenge Account in confronting the problems of the continent.
